Duty Free Shopping In Barbados
Here's a List of Department Stores and Shops as well as your duty free allowance
Tax free shopping is available in Barbados to all tourists. Most shopping activities take place in Bridgetown, Capital and main city of Barbados. On
this special island, and as a tourist, you can purchase hundreds, in
fact, just about every purchase you make would be duty free... have your
travel documents on hand to receive this nice 'discount' on such items
as fashion accessories, electronics, cameras, watches, china, jewelry
and the oh so mellow Barbados rum! Available for purchase at
Pelican Village, are Barbados craft products, made by talented 'Bajan'
crafts persons. These include art, rum cake, headwear, accessories and
lots more. Pelican Village is comprised of a Retail section and a
Workshop. Your 'shop till you drop' jaunt will acquaint you with
downtown Broad Street and the major department stores as well as the
Bridgetown Cruise Terminals, (for cruise passengers) located at Deep
Water Harbour, Bridgetown Port. (about a mile from Bridgetown) While most of the shopping can be done in Bridgetown, there are towns outside of the capital that offer duty free shopping. Tobacco, alcohol and electronic devices can only be purchased immediately prior to your departure. You will need to know what your duty free allowance is. Below are guidelines, which may be subject to change: Britain:
Each returning citizen over 19 years of age may take back 2 litres of
alcohol, 200 cigarettes or 250 grams of tobacco, 60 ml of perfumes and
up to £145 worth of other goods. Canada: Anyone aged 19 or over
(subject to change according to provincial laws) can include up to: 50
cigars or cigarillos, 200 cigarettes, 400 tobacco sticks, 400 grams of
manufactured tobacco, 1.14 litres (40 imperial ozs.) of wine or liquor
or 24 x 355 ml (12fl.oz) cans or bottles of beer or ale. Beer or
wine containing 0.5 per cent alcohol by volume or less is not classed as
an alcoholic beverage; as a result no quantity limits apply U.S.A.:
Not more than 100 cigars and 200 cigarettes, one litre (33.8 fl.oz) of
alcoholic beverages may be included if you are 21 years or older. Alcoholic beverages in excess of the one litre limitation are subject to duty and internal revenue tax.
Note also: If you have been shopping in Barbados, departing citizens
whose stay is in excess of 48 hours may take back, free of duty,
articles totaling up to U.S. $400 (based on the retail value of the
items in the country of purchase) on their return. For Barbados shopping, duty on purchases in excess of the U.S. $400 exemption, is 10% on the next U.S. $1000 and thereafter. Venezuela: 2 cartons of cigarettes, 50 cigars, 2 bottles of liquor. Up to US$ 400 per person in purchases tax exempt. Don't forget to take the all-important document... Your passport or airline ticket with you on your shopping trip. For your convenience, most stores offer to deliver your packages directly to the airport or seaport. We

The Watering Hole, Highway 7, St. Lawrence Gap, 435-6375, is a good place to buy rum, as well as sample!

is a department store, with 5 locations, offering an outstanding
assortment of designer perfume and cosmetics, liquor and cigars,
sportswear and beachwear, local craft and souvenirs, all available at
great tax free prices.
